Alexandre Amoroso

Alex Amoroso
Instructor | Performer | Choreographer

A thirst for knowledge has driven Alexandre in all spheres of his life - salsa is no exception.
Having graduated from law school and looking for a new challenge from his practice of martial arts, Alexandre
embarked on his dance training in 2001, beginning his journey at the Hampstead School of Latin Dance and
quickly undertaking an intense exploration of the burgeoning London scene, learning from early notable
names such as the Tropicana and Salsoteca dance schools.

An invitation to join the Diablo Dance Company (European Salsa Slam 2005 and 2006 champions) under the direction
of Laith Sami in 2004 catapulted him onto the performance circuit. He was one of the founding members
of the group, touring the UK for over a year and appearing on national television.

Alexandre’s precise and technically explicit teaching gained increasing recognition in London. His focus on
crisp, clear leading and smooth, inventive moves, combined with a dedicated and patient approach, dabbled
with humour, has proved to be a heady cocktail and made him a sought after instructor. He has been a regular
instructor for all the high profile London dance organisations, including MamboCity and Simply Salsa,
SOS, Salsa UK and Salsoteca as well as being invited to teach at the MamboCity and Salsa UK congresses and
internationally at events in Russia, Spain, Hungary and Sweden.

Katarina Wiklund

Katarina Wiklund
Instructor | Performer

Known for her AMAZING spinning, Katarina was raised in Gothenburg, Sweden and started dancing at the age of 4.
Her jazz teacher’s interest in Afro Caribbean dances inspired Katarina, who soon took Afro Cuban and Colombian
folklore to her heart.

At a very early age, she also discovered a passion for teaching. As a result, she started teaching her younger
sister and kids in the neighbourhood everything from jazz to lambada, and had them all performing for their families.

As part of the dance group Candela, Katarina performed in schools, museums, carnivals and other cultural events
in Sweden. It was while she was in this group that she first learned salsa, over 15 years ago.

In fact, she was leading for quite some time before learning how to follow in salsa, which gave her an advantage
later on when she started teaching on a regular basis, as she could easily break down and explain both sides of
the dance.

Katarina also instructed for Salsadans Dance Company in Gothenburg, Sweden, for 4 years, teaching salsa,
merengue and bachata with Huascar Saavedra and Marcelo Valderrama in various cities on the Swedish west coast.

Craving inspiration and knowledge, Katarina started travelling abroad to places such as New York, London, Paris
and Barcelona. Eventually she decided to settle in London, where she has been working with Susana Montero and
Super Mario, enjoying the variety and interpretations of salsa that London has to offer. She also teaches for MamboCity
at their weekly club night in Ealing Broadway, and has covered classes for Susana Montero at the Latin Dance Academy.

Since she moved to London, Katarina has been invited back to Sweden to teach at several salsa events out there,
and performed with Alexandre Amoroso at the salsa festival in Stenungsund in November 2006.

Katarina likes to put life into her dancing and give it different effects by mixing fast and slow, sharp and smooth, fast spins
and light following. Incorporating these elements, and with emphasis in technique, control and playful improvisation,
she has created her own style, making her easy to spot on the dancefloor. She enjoys everything from cross body style
both on1 and on2, Cuban style salsa and rueda to bachata and cha cha cha.

Her devotion, patience and the way she explains the technique and breaks everything down when teaching has made her
a sought after instructor, especially her workshops in spinning technique.

Becky Roberts

Becky Roberts
Instructor | Performer

Becky discovered salsa through her love of Latin Jazz, Cuban and Nu-Yorican music.

Long before she took to the dancefloor, she was inspired by the rhythm and soul from the whole range of salsa music
and an invitation from a friend to go to a London Latin club sparked her interest in the dance form.

Becky’s enthusiasm and natural flare led her to train with established teachers such as Susanna Montero, SuperMario,
the Tropicana dance school and Manhattan Mambo.

She relishes the fact that salsa has opened up the world to her in a completely unique way and brought so many new,
like-minded souls across her path.  Her particular passion for On2 style salsa took her to New York and she’s also
explored salsa in many European countries, soaking up knowledge from a wide variety of instructors and improving her
style by exposing herself to the influences that each country had to offer.

Her performances for the Tropicana Dance School and the Seraphim Dance Company have allowed her to push her own
boundaries, but her desire to constantly improve and her commitment to enjoying the fun side of salsa remain at the
core of what’s kept her on the dance floor for so long.

She freely admits to encouraging friends, colleagues and random strangers to try out a salsa class and this energy and
positivity spills over into her teaching.  Witnessing her students improve in class is one factor that motivates her
involvement in the art form along with making new friends and dancing till she drops.
